Sprouted French Toast
It’s been a while since I have made french toast, years probably, just too long. But we were craving something sweet without being overly so and this hit the spot!
I think what holds me back from making french toast is i often thing it’s a time consuming thing to make. But now when there is an abundance of time, I wanted to give it a go. In doing so I quickly remembered just how easy this dish actually is. Minimal effort, maximum reward. If you’re wanting to make a larger serving of this, you could always make the custard mixture the day before and just bake the toast in the oven instead of cooking it in a sauté pan!
Sprouted French Toast
Author: Consciously Coastal
prep time: 20 | cook time: 5-8 | Servings: 2
Ingredients:
- 4 slices of bread, I used sprouted Ezekiel bread
- 2 pasture raised eggs
- ¼ c dairy free creamer, I used @nutpods
- ¼ c dairy free milk, I used Califia Farms
- ¼ c sweetner of choice, I used coconut sugar
- 1 ½ tbs cinnamon
- 1 tbs vanilla
- Pinch of Himalayan salt
- Toppings of choice, I used fresh berries
Instructions:
- Whisk all ingredients besides bread and toppings together in a bowl
- Once fully combined transfer mixture to a casserole dish and lay your sliced bread flat throughout the dish. I like to pour some of the mixture on the upward facing side of each slice of bread. Allow to soak for 10-15 minutes. You might want to flip them halfway through just to make sure each slice is evenly coated.
- While the bread is soaking, prep your fruit, make yourself some coffee or tea, be productive, relax, whatever you need- and let the marinade work its magic ✨.
- Once the 10-15 minutes is up, remove the bread from the custard and cook French toast in a large sauté pan / griddle on medium-high heat until both sides are fully cooked and crisp (about 2-3 minutes each side depending on the thickness of your bread).
- Garnish with your toppings of choice, I used: blueberries, strawberries, granola, and maple syrup.
Boom, you just made yourself a delicious, easy, fun breakfast to celebrate making it through another week
