Tostones (Fried Green Plantains)
Oh, tostones. Where I come from any form of plantains are a totally acceptable form of breakfast, lunch, or dinner, and right now I’m sort of wishing I was curled up to a giant plate of these crispy delights....also a cafe con leche would be nice too.
The secret to that PERFECT golden delicious coloring? Avocado oil, I swear by it. No need for vegetable or canola oil to make delicious “fried” food (or anything really) Honestly is there anything avocados can’t do? Asking for a friend.

prep time: 5 minutes | cook time: 5 minutes | Servings: 3
Ingredients:
- 1 green plantain
- seasonings of choice (i use garlic powder, onion powder, and salt!)
- enough avocado oil to create a shallow frying pool of happiness in your cast iron skillet or sauté pan
Instructions:
- Cut off the top of your plantain and make 3-4 slits starting from the freshly cut top area, moving downward.
- Peel plantain and slice into about 1 inch thick rounds. You’ll want to fry them in medium high heat.
- Once they start to brown, remove them from the oil, place on cutting board and using a round, flat surface, such as the bottom of a lightly oiled glass mason jar (if you don’t have a plantain press) smash the round until it is flat.
- Place half cooked tostones back into the oil and allow to fully cook. They should be golden and crispy when complete.
- Season to your liking, I use homemade adobo seasoning like this one here.
